41st Festival of Frugality Is Available

MMF jumped the gun this week by publishing the 41st Festival of Frugality a day early but that’s no big deal. He’s gone with the style of highlighting posts (in this case five), brought a few up was notable mentions, and then shotgunned the rest.

Personally, I like this approach less than I like the listing approach (my default when I find myself strapped for time as I have the last few times I’ve hosed) for no particular reason other than aesthetics. Information-wise you really only lose the authoring blog’s name so it’s not a real travesty but it just looks like it was a rushed job (even though it takes more time to cut out the titles and links than it does to simply paste what Blog Carnival gives you).

The value in hosting a carnival is in the links you’ll get back from the various submitters (I have been guilty of not linking back many a time) and you’ll find the more time you put into a submission the more links you’ll get in return. For example, Nick at Punny.org has hosted several great carnivals (35th FoF and 19th FoF) and that blog was linked to a lot by appreciative and amazed submitters (I just linked to Punny.org four times in this paragraph!)

And, as a selfish plug for myself, when I hosted the 47th Carnival of Personal Finance back in May 2006, complete with a carnival map, I received a whole ton of links.

So the moral of the story is you can host it however you like but to get the most bang for your buck, it pays to host it with a bit of imagination!
