Frugal Tip: Insulate Your Hot Water Heater with Blankets

It sounds silly but try wrapping your old unused blankets around your water heater. Every single moment of every single day, your hot water heater sits there keeping your hot water… hot. If your hot water heater isn’t insulated very well, it’s working overtime (especially in the winter) just to keep your water nice and toasty – even if you’re not using it. So, a quick and easy tip that can save you a few bucks on your electricity or gas bill is to wrap your water heater up with old blankets.

    But be careful, because doing this can void the warranty on new heaters (I know because we just bought one and they said…). If you have the choice when replacing a heater, consider an on-demand heater.
