Frugal Tip: Stockpile Decorations For Next Year
It’s November 1st, the day after Halloween, and today’s the first day of huge Halloween clearance sales as stores start trying to get rid of all the Halloween stuff they were carrying the last month or so. Stores and their sales will come in two varieties. First, you have the big stores that happened to sell Halloween stuff, trying to strike while the iron was hot, and those stores are trying to get rid of it so they can stock the Christmas stuff. If the stores are major chains, then the clearances are going to be good because they’re thinking about the profit of the Christmas merchandise and not about trying to salvage value from the Halloween stuff.
The second type of store is the one that rented space just to sell Halloween stuff. In some cases, those stores are already gone as they only signed a month lease for a space and November 1st is a new month. For those, your best bet would’ve been to go on the 30th or 31st, though sales will have started earlier in anticipation of the end of the lease.
This tip works for any major holiday in this season such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and everything else. My recommendation is that you buy decorations that will last the year and only buy them if you plan on using them. There’s no sense buying a pumpkin lantern if you won’t use it next year, a deal is only a deal if it’s valuable! Don’t buy costumes for your children because you’ll either misjudge their growth or they won’t want “last year’s costume.”
So, what are you waiting for!?
